John 14: 4-9

John 14: 4-9

Jn 14:4And where I am going you know the way. Jn 14:5Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going; how can we know the way? Jn 14:6Jesus said to him, I am the way and the reality and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. Jn 14:7If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and henceforth you know Him and have seen Him. Jn 14:8Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the Father and it is sufficient for us. Jn 14:9Jesus said to him, Have I been so long a time with you, and you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how is it that you say, Show us the Father?

Should Christians read Jesus calling?

Should Christians read Jesus calling?

Should Christians read Jesus calling?

The great danger of faddish, new age books like "Jesus Calling" is that they drive a wedge between God’s people and His Word, encouraging them to look beyond the scope of Scripture for additional words from the Lord.
In simple terms, they devalue the Bible and elevate emotional experiences and imaginary voices to the level of divine authority.
And when anything you hear or feel could be the Lord speaking, you leave yourself open to all sorts of heresy and satanic lies.
God’s people need to be wary of anyone who assumes to speak for Him.
We need to defend the authority of His Word against all pretenders.
And we need to help shepherd other believers away from the popular desire for special revelation and back to the all-sufficient Word of God.
I like devotional books, but books that point us back to the Word of God, not medieval mysticism.

Unfortunately, many Christian publishers today 'sell out' to publish anything that sells even if it promotes theological error.

NIV version says this...
'Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales;
rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is
of some value, but godliness has value for all things,
holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. '

NASB1995 version says this...
'But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for
old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for
the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of
little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things,
since it holds promise for the present life and
also for the life to come. ' 1 Timothy 4:7-8 https://my.bible.com/bible/100/1TI.4.7-8

What Did Jesus Preach?

What Did Jesus Preach?

The predominant focus of mainstream Christianity is the undeserved crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the subsequent forgiveness of sins that is available through accepting that sacrifice. While this selfless act was and is unquestionably momentous, and its effects exceedingly far-reaching, many would be shocked to find out that the Bible defines the gospel differently than what they have always been told. A thoughtful reading shows that accepting Christ's blood in payment of our sins—as foundationally important as it is—is actually not the focus of the "good news" that He brought and that the apostles continued to preach.

In addition to dying for our sins, Jesus Christ came to earth as a messenger from God the Father:

Behold, I send My messenger [John the Baptist], and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 3:1)

Jesus did not speak His own words, but the words that the Father gave Him (John 8:38-4212:49-5014:24). His message was not primarily about Himself, but rather the good news that the Father ordained to be announced on earth. While Jesus Christ was categorically the most important individual ever to walk this earth, the Bible shows clearly that the gospel that Jesus brought was not simply about Himself. Read His statements, and prove this for yourself:

» And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. (Matthew 4:23)

» And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. (Matthew 9:35)

» Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:14-15)

» [Jesus] said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent." (Luke 4:43)

» Now it came to pass, afterward, that [Jesus] went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings [gospel] of the kingdom of God. (Luke 8:1)

» The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail. (Luke 16:16-17)

» And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

The inspired Word of God makes it abundantly plain: The "good news" that Jesus Christ brought was about the Kingdom of God! The "gospel of Jesus Christ" is simply the message of good news that Jesus preached—not a message about Jesus. It is not primarily a message about the events in His life and of His becoming the Savior of the world—although it most certainly does include all that. But if the events of His life are not seen in the context of what He said, the resulting "faith" will be full of error and ultimately disastrous!

The announcement of "good news"—the very best news that could be heard today—which the Father gave through Jesus Christ, was about His Kingdom being established on earth.

But what is a kingdom? It is essentially a nation, with all of its citizens, land, and laws, ruled by a government. In biblical usage, a kingdom can also mean a family from a single parent grown into a nation.

A kingdom has four basic elements: 1) a king, supreme ruler, or governing agent; 2) territory, with its specific location and definite boundary lines; 3) subjects or citizens within that territorial jurisdiction; 4) and laws and a form of government through which the will of the ruler is exercised. If we ignore any one of these essential elements—if we ignore the message that Jesus Christ brought from the Father—we will have a distorted faith, one that will not bring salvation.

Proverbs 12

The book of PROVERBS

 Proverbs 12

Pr 12:1Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, / But he who hates reproof is stupid.

Pr 12:2A good man will obtain the favor of Jehovah, / But a man of wicked devices He will condemn.

Pr 12:3A man will not be established by wickedness, / But the root of the righteous will not be moved.

Pr 12:4A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, / But she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Pr 12:5The thoughts of the righteous are just, / But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.

Pr 12:6The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, / But the mouth of the upright will deliver them.

Pr 12:7The wicked are overthrown and are no more, / But the house of the righteous will stand.

Pr 12:8A man will be praised according to his prudence, / But he who is of a perverse heart will be despised.

Pr 12:9Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant, / Than he who honors himself and lacks bread.

Pr 12:10A righteous man regards the life of his beast, / But the inward parts of the wicked are cruel.

Pr 12:11He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, / But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.

Pr 12:12The wicked man desires the catch of evil men, / But the root of the righteous yields fruit.

Pr 12:13In the transgression of the lips there is a snare for the evil man, / But the righteous man will come out of trouble.

Pr 12:14A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, / And the result of man’s deeds will be rendered to him.

Pr 12:15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, / But a wise man listens to counsel.

Pr 12:16A fool’s anger is known at once, / But a prudent man conceals shame.

Pr 12:17He who utters truth tells forth righteousness; / But a false witness, deceit.

Pr 12:18There is one who speaks rashly like the piercings of a sword, / But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Pr 12:19The lip of truth shall be established forever, / But a lying tongue is only for a moment.

Pr 12:20Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, / But counselors of peace have joy.

Pr 12:21No harm will happen to the righteous man, / But the wicked are filled with trouble.

Pr 12:22Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah, / But those who deal faithfully are His delight.

Pr 12:23A prudent man conceals knowledge, / But the heart of fools proclaims folly.

Pr 12:24The hand of the diligent will rule, / But the slothful will be under forced labor.

Pr 12:25Anxiety in the heart of a man weighs it down, / But a good word brings it joy.

Pr 12:26The righteous man is a guide to his neighbor, / But the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Pr 12:27The slothful man does not roast his game, / But the precious substance of men is to the diligent.

Pr 12:28In the way of righteousness is life, / And in its pathway there is no death.

Aristotle

Aristotle

Did you know Aristotle?

Aristotle (Ancient Greek: 384 BCE – March 7, 322 BCE) was an ancient Greek philosopher, who studied with Plato and taught Alexander the Great. He wrote books on many subjects, including physics, poetry, zoology, logic, rhetoric, government, and biology. Aristotle, along with Plato and Socrates, is generally considered one of the most influential of ancient Greek philosophers. They transformed Pre-Socratic Greek philosophy into the foundations of Western philosophy as we know it. The writings of Plato and Aristotle founded two of the most important schools of Ancient philosophy.

Aristotle valued knowledge gained from the senses and in modern terms would be classed among the modern empiricists (see materialism and empiricism). He also achieved a "grounding" of dialectic in the Topics by allowing interlocutors to begin from commonly held beliefs (Endoxa); his goal being non-contradiction rather than Truth. He set the stage for what would eventually develop into the empirical scientific method some two millennia later. Although he wrote dialogues early in his career, no more than fragments of these have survived. The works of Aristotle that still exist today are in treatise form and were, for the most part, unpublished texts. These were probably the lecture notes or texts used by his students and were almost certainly revised repeatedly over the course of years. As a result, these works tend to be eclectic, dense and difficult to read. Among the most important ones are Physics, Metaphysics (or Ontology), Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, De Anima (On the Soul) and Poetics. These works, although connected in many fundamental ways, are very different in both style and substance.

Aristotle is known for being one of the few figures in history who studied almost every subject possible at the time, probably being one of the first polymaths. In science, Aristotle studied anatomy, astronomy, economics, embryology, geography, geology, meteorology, physics, and zoology. In philosophy, Aristotle wrote on aesthetics, ethics, government, metaphysics, politics, psychology, rhetoric, and theology. He also dealt with education, foreign customs, literature, and poetry. His combined works practically constitute an encyclopedia of Greek knowledge.

 I didn’t know him either…

The Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle created the scientific method, the process used for scientific investigation. His influence served as the basis for much of the science and philosophy of Hellenistic (Ancient Greek) and Roman times and even affected science and philosophy thousands of years later.

...In 342 B.C.E. Aristotle made his way to the court of Philip of Macedon (c. 382–c. 336 B.C.E. ). There Aristotle became the tutor to Alexander (c. 356–c. 323 B.C.E. ), who would become master of the whole Persian Empire as Alexander the Great. Little information remains regarding the specific contents of Alexander's education at the hands of Aristotle, but it would be interesting to know what political advice Aristotle gave to the young Alexander. The only indication of such advice is found in the fragment of a letter in which the philosopher tells Alexander that he ought to be the leader of the Greeks but the master of the barbarians (foreigners).
